The SIF GroupThe SIF Group's predecessor, the Union of Icelandic Fish Producers (Sölusamband íslenzkra fiskframleiðenda), was founded in July 1932. It was established against a background of trading difficulties for producers, in an effort to ensure reasonable prices for fish exports.

Today SIF Group is a European food producer focused on producing chilled seafood and festive food. SIF Group operates fourteen production facilities in four countries; France, Spain, Britain, and Iceland where its headquarters are located. The company’s products include bacalao, shellfish, smoked salmon, foie gras, blini and taramasalata. The company’s products are sold both under retailers’ own labels and its own brands which include Islandia, Skandia, Labeyrie, Blini, Delpierre, Lyons and York. SIF’s brands hold leading position in France, Spain, and the United Kingdom which together form the company’s core market. SÍF Group now operates in 11 countries and has a combined workforce of around 3.900 employees. The company’s products are sold in over 60 countries.

Acquisition of Labeyrie Group
SIF Group has put an added emphasis on food production in Europe and has separated its manufacturing and trading activities. As part of this strategy, SÍF Group acquired the French food producer Labeyrie Group in October 2004. This acquisition was made to strengthen the company’s market position for chilled food products to retailers in European. With this acquisition SIF becomes a powerful food production Group in Europe. At the same time the company sold its subsidiary in the USA making Europe its primary market place. As a consequence of this new strategy, trading activities of the SÍF Group will be transferred into a separate corporate entity.

The acquisition of Labeyrie Group and the changes being made to SÍF at the same time represent a landmark in the company’s history.

Corporate Focus
Iceland SeafoodTo sharpen the focus in the SIF Group’s operations, a distinction has been made between its final-processed production and traditional seafood sales, with the latter being handled by a special subsidiary. In future, SIF’s traditional seafood sales all over the world will be carried out under the name Iceland Seafood. As before, company will continue in its aim to be a leading supplier of fresh, frozen and salted seafood from Icelandic producers, using its marketing facilities in Iceland, Britain, France, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, Italy, Spain, Greece, Canada and the USA.

The main emphasis at Iceland Seafood is on traditional sales of seafood products for further processing, and to wholesalers, distributors, caterers and other parties that resell them under their own brands.
